AH : Music video reviews

Jay-z and Kanye West- No church in the wild




  • Slow motion shot to show throwing a bottle
  • High angle shot looking up at the statue in the fog
  • Slow motion shot of men kicking through the police shields
  • Long shots of the fire at police
  • Long shots of fireworks
  • Various shots of police with lasers
  • Use of image control to adjust lighting techniques

Naughty Boy ft Sam Smith- La La La


  • Opening shot uses a tracking shot of camera going through door and following the man
  • Extreme long shot of train shot
  • Tracking shot looking down on the mountain
  • Rule of thirds, three people walking in line together in long shot
Rizzle Kicks- Down with the trumpets


  • Opening shot uses editing effects to show their faces on the screen
  • Slow motion shot of man jumping over a wall
  • Use of cross cuts when leaning into the wall, or falling to the floor
  • Long shot used in between two walls
Eminem- Beautiful


  • Long establishing shots at beggining to show location
  • Panning shot of him walking in darkness with the light reflecting through to make shadowy effect
  • Extreme long shot of him walking in the distance
Bastille- Pompeii


  • Extreme long shot, which zooms in for opening shot
  • Pull focus when looking out at the city
  • Shot going down stairs the uses a match cut to swap to the other level
  • Use of handicam to show him in a rush when he lost his key
  • Extreme longshot of him walking of the bridge in the distance
Evaluation-
Overall, after watching through these music videos it helps reflect the fact to me that music videos do not follow any particular pattern in terms of the cutting rates or camera shots they feature, therefore they could all be considered in some ways very experimental and artistic. I have also found looking through these has given me some ideas to incorperate within my production in terms of the different camera techniques I could use, as well as the editing effects.
